Dealing with Warriors as Mesmer
Hey guys, i'm a mesmer, and am fairly new to the game and lately in RA's i've just been steamrollered by any warrior with a mace, and quite a few sins (dervishes normally aren't problems). And was just wondering how can i NOT be destroyed in the course of one knockdown lock by a warrior? Is it possible? my health is ~550, so i don't know why it's such an issue...
Thanks!

I play a Mesmer too. Only defense against warriors is hit them at range, slow them down. Once they get kd lock you are dead turkey.

get a shield with +10 vs blunt, a spear with +7 vs physical; your health in shield set should be 570 to 600+ depending on insignias.
also don't eat bulls. most hammer warriors are terrible with bulls.
idk what bar you're running, but you can bring a skill rupt (leech, cry, PI) and anticipate dev use pretty easy. warrior uses enraging, hits something a couple times, then runs up to you--chances are he has dev queued.

You can always bring a stance. Disciplined Stance, Shield Bash, Dark Escape or even Balanced Stance are all possible. If you can't spare the secondary profession, you can still try Distortion.
One KD chain (i.e. 2 KDs) should not be enough to kill you, too, so don't eat the Bull's Strike (which would make it three KDs) and you should be fine for the nonce.

Shield Bash is the best option at no spec for RA. Disciplined Stance is alright if you want to invest in tactics for a better AL bonus from your shield, but Dark Escape and Balanced Stance are simply not good options for RA.
Also remember that several Mesmer interrupts (PI, PD, Complicate, Leech) work on attack skills, and there are few things more frustrating for a Hammer Warrior or Assassin than having your chain interrupted, particularly if you are adding to the recharge with Shield Bash/Complicate/PD. Don't reserve these spells only for casters!

Hmm i'll try the shield, and i've been using inept recently which works when there isn't a monk around to remove the blind... clumsiness has also worked "ok", i'll look into Shield bash though since that seems to be suggested a lot.

Yeah, predict the next knockdown attack usage and use Shield Bash just before it. He'll end up getting knocked down instead of you (unless it's Irresistible Blow, then you'll both get knocked down), and you'll be able to kite away or cast some kind of shutdown spell on him/her. You'll also shut out the adrenaline charge on the affected skill for a while too.
Must say it seems kinda backwards though that you find Warriors the hardest to deal with, and Dervishes the easiest when it comes to melee. Seems sorta strange considering Dervish is by far more resilient to hexes than Warrior is, who are arguably the class most vulnerable to hexes in the entire game (either Warriors or Paragons are, anyway).

The OP noted problems specifically dealing with knockdowns, rather than general pressure.
You don't need to actually predict skills to use Shield Bash, just use it on the desired skill once you see it activating. Otherwise, good players will either change targets or wait out its duration and train you out. When dealing with Assassins, you should be able to generally reflex Jagged Strike or Leaping Mantis Sting, if not then time to disrupt the offhand except versus bars running two off-hands (like Golden Fang Strike) in which case get the dual attack.

Keep out of the warriors way would be the main thing, and yes equip your shield and defensive main hand.
Defensive skills mentioned above.
If you dont have any protection/healing within your team and your in a full knocklock don't expect to live to long.

I lol'ed.
Because I am a warrior, and I find mesmers to be my absolute bane.

Soothing Images is pretty funny. Some Warriors may curse you in local chat. Make sure to cover it with another hex though.
...and you want to gear yourself in armor. It's just an example but having 500 hp is ok when you have 100 armor.
